Basic breastfeeding tips
You’ll soon get to know your baby’s ways and your feeding relationship and routine will develop. Here are some things to bear in mind at the beginning:
- Never make a hungry baby wait to be fed
- Don’t leave your baby to cry for a long time when they’re very tiny
- Babies vary hugely when it comes to how long they feed for, and how big the gap between feeds – there is no set pattern that your baby should conform to
- Your baby’s digestive system works better and will become more settled if he’s encouraged to take full feeds rather than snacks - resulting in less wind and colic. That way, his system has a chance to digest one meal before starting another
